Announcing the publication of "Off the Rails" exhibition catalogue
![]() |
MIZUMA & ONE Gallery, Beijing, is pleased to announce the publication of the catalogue for "Off the Rails", the gallery's inaugural exhibition currently on view until August 24. "Off the Rails" is a group exhibition showcasing work by the best-known artists from Mizuma Art Gallery in Tokyo. It includes AIDA Makoto, Konoike Tomoko, ISO Hirofu, YAMAGUCHI Ai, YAMAGUCHI Akira, KONDOH Akino, Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba, TANADA Koji, TENMYOUYA Hisashi, MATSUKAGE Hiroyuki and O Jun. The full-color, 72-page exhibition catalogue includes an essay by David Elliott, "The Zombie, the Alien, Hybrid, and the Mask−Late Showa anxieties in Heisei art" in English and also in Chinese and Japanese translation. Elliott, a freelance curator, writer and historian based in London, Berlin and Istanbul, was formerly the director of the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo and director of the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art. With characteristically sharp insight, Elliott explores how each of the artists is slightly "off the rails" in their rejection of passing fads in favor of their own original and unique voice. MIZUMA & ONE Gallery - the sister gallery to Mizuma Art Gallery, Tokyo - opened on April 26 in the Caochangdi district of Beijing. Soft cover, 72 pages , 2,100yen (incl. tax), US$20, CN\150. | |
